“Wherever we look upon this earth, the opportunities take shape within the problems.”

This one could not better more appropriate for me right now. I can choose to focus on the problem(s) itself, or I can choose to see the opportunity the problem(s) presents. I must admit that in the past I have been the one focused on the problem. Truth be told I had a difficult time learning to change my perspective so that I could see the opportunity a problem presented. I am not there yet, but I am getting better at seeing the opportunities within a problem.

Are you more focused on the problem, or the opportunity within the problem?

This IS a good one. Cool picture, too!

What gets solved just focusing on the problem anyway? Oh – the problem of lack of focus! Thanks for the good reminder Cheryl.

    No problem! lol

It sounds like you're struggling to maintain a positive outlook, for lack of better words. Actually the quote at the top is a small paraphrase of some of the teachings that go back 1,000's of years . . . you can find them in the book, The Art of War . . . and yes, turning a constraint into a resource, or a negative into a positive, can help in planning.

Good luck, and I won't apologize for being a little negative, but I will do my damnedest to keep it to myself! :)

Problem: No one visits my art site.

Opportunity: Get to know no one better!

If you don't take the time to get know anyone, how will they know to visit your site and get to know you?

sorry, that was meant as a joke…I have a hard time taking the Rockefellers seriously when it comes to problems and opportunities…do you have any specifics to go with the quote? Then there is the issue of objectives.

So sorry… I guess that speaks to my day today. Personally I don't care who said the words, I just like what the words say to me. In the past I have focused far too much on the problem rather than looking within the problem for an opportunity. Trying to change my perspective for the better. :)

I see a lot of optimism coming from you lately… can't wait to continue to watch to see where you end up :) I think I try to focus on the opoortunities, but I could definitely do a better job because I know I have problems too!

This coming from the guy on a world tour… hmmmm….. LOL

Although I tend to look for the opportunity as I think there is always a solution I do believe depending on the problem it can be difficult to change your thinking.

    • Geek Girl March 26, 2013 at 12:45 pm #

I do agree. Change is sometimes hard. Yes. Speaking from experience.

I get stuck in seeing problems instead of opportunities when I am most overwhelmed. Thankfully, the past few months have seen me finally finding more silver linings. For me, half the battle is always just realizing and owning up to how I tend to mull over things when I really just need to move on and focus on the positive.

    • Geek Girl March 25, 2013 at 5:13 pm #

I relate so much to what you are saying Jeri. Mulling things over was my specialty, so much so it paralyzed me from actually doing anything. Getting better, but not there yet. :)

This reminds me of the saying "opportunity is disguised as hard work." I know that isn't the whole thing but you get the gist. Most of the time our problems suck, but they can lead to better days ahead.

    • Geek Girl March 25, 2013 at 5:10 pm #

LOL Yeah, problems do kinda suck. But there is usually light at the end of the tunnel.

Great quote, Cheryl. I tend to be an optimist, sometimes too much so! But it has been my experience that good comes out of every situation if you we look hard enough. Have an AWESOME day!

    • Geek Girl March 25, 2013 at 5:09 pm #

There is always something good. We just sometimes have to look for it.

Very fitting for my day today. I'm moving all kinds of stuff around on my blog and it's all for the better, but it has the same feeling as if I'm renovating my house… sigh!

    • Geek Girl March 25, 2013 at 5:08 pm #

Yup… I totally feel your pain. But there is opportunity hiding in there. :)
